Changing to leather wrapped steering
Bought in ebay from a seller in USA a brand new unused Cruze leather wrapped steering that comes complete with cruise control buttons, audio & phone answering/hangup button. And of course the most important one, a leather wrapped steering that feels so much better than the standard rubber/plastic steering on Malaysian Cruze version.
It came in this box delivered by my friendly neighbourhood postman.
Steering nicely & carefully wrapped in protection
The steering without airbag
Cruise control buttons
Audio buttons with added phone answering/hangup buttons
Installer dismantling the airbag by hooking up a pin behind the steering wheel to dislodge airbag
The back of the airbag harness, safely out
The old steering with airbag dismantled.
Mechanic loosen the nut in the middle of the steering column to dismantle old steering
Almost plug & play, reverse the method..screw back the nut, plug in airbag & replace cover...VOILA!!
Now, it looks so much better and most important feels so so much better on your hand.
Operation of the audio control remains but the phone answering/hangup buttons can only access the bluetooth menu screen on the DVD/GPS player.
Now, I am sure the most anticipated question will be, does the cruise control work? Contrary to some result obtained by Cruze owners in the USA, the Malaysian version does not work. However, the light on the buttons do turn on! Which made me and the anonymous mechanic conclude that, the cruise control module MAY be built in but needs to be enabled from the ECU.
Getting the phone answering buttons to work was already a bonus. The cruise control will have to wait. Overall, so satisfied with the new feeling of the leather wrapped steering.

Re: Changing to leather wrapped steering
Hi again,
sorry for being persistent but I really need someone "qualified" who can install this. Tried both Chevy SC KL and Puchong both of them couldnt do it. one of them mentioned that they need to get a "code" from korea to fit in the new steering. Please share. or is there any other forum that I can ask? it seems very quite in here....

Well, at their discretion, the service centre can void your warranty even if it's just changing the head lamps or maybe even a bulb.
